Adding value to journeys

Driving passenger numbers

A quick search on the internet shows that there are some really fun and innovative ways the inside of buses can be used to promote products, whether they be our own or a third parties.

The service station Moto has an app that offers daily discounts of up to 40% on certain purchases at outlets such as M&S, Burger King and Costa. As an industry we transport millions of shoppers to town and city centres each week, I may have missed it, but I don’t know of a similar bus app.

Free on-board wi-fi could be monetize, advertising space could be offered in printed timetables to businesses and attractions that are on line of a particular bus route. An on-line enquiry via a journey planner could lead to targeted offers being made by a third party that our services pass. Similarly, on-line maps could also highlight shops and attractions on route, with a link through to that business and an offer.

The above could be packaged and sold to retailers.  It could be used to add value to bus travel, generating more journeys, by offering added benefits to our customers through discounts when they use the bus or down-load an app.
